“Agreement signed at 12:06 am on Saturday secretly” JVP says Govt sold Kerawalapitiya pp to US firm

JVP Leader Anura Kumara has alleged that the government has signed a midnight agreement to sell 40% of the Kerawalapitiya power plant and the gas pipeline and terminal power plant to an American company.

“The agreement was signed at 12:06 AM on Saturday (18). US investors left at 2 am, Thereafter the President flew off to the US,” JVP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said.

Addressing the media at the party headquarters, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the current rulers are in the process of transferring large amounts of national resources to foreigners, although a key factor in building this regime was the idea of protecting national resources.

According to the Sunday Morning Newspaper the Cabinet last week approved the controversial share transfer of the 300 MW Yugadanavi Power Station in Kerawalapitiya to New Fortress Energy Inc., a US-based energy company.

The Cabinet had approved the cabinet paper presented by Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa despite objections raised by three Cabinet Ministers, namely Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Wimal Weerawansa, and Udaya Gammanpila.

Through the transaction, the Treasury would raise nearly $ 300 million, it is learnt.
