Lohan Ratwatte will only be required to step down from his portfolio of State Minister of Gem and Jewelry Related Industries if he has engaged in a jewllery theft, Minister Wimal Weerawansa said yesterday.
He made the clarification, when responding to a question raised by a reporter on Ratwatte only tendering his resignation as the State Minister of Prison Management and Prisoners Rehabilitation, and not State Minister of Gem and Jewelry Related Industries.
Minister Weerawansa added that Lohan Ratwatte has resigned after taking responsibility over the incidents that were reported at the Welikada and Anuradhapura prisons recently.
Weeranwansa further said that mistakes similar to the incident do occur, but the fact that Ratwatte resigned gracefully is to be honoured by the people.
He added that such exemplary behavior pertaining to a resignation has not been witnessed in the past. (NewsWire)
