An email received by the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) authorities on a potential attack has been found to be fake, Defence Secretary Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne said.
The Defence Secretary urged the public not to panic over the “fake email” that was received by the airport authorities recently.
Referring to the standard security measures adopted at the BIA, he said the country’s defence and law enforcing agencies are continuing their duties at the same level without letting anyone disrupt the lasting peace.
Several media reports had recently claimed that security had been beefed up at the airport in Katunayake after the authorities had received an email on a potential attack.
The email had said that the attack will be carried out on 20th September if four people named in the email are not released immediately.
However, claiming that the email is fake, the Defence Secretary urged the public not to panic over the email regarding a security threat. (NewsWire)
