Another individual has been arrested in connection to the hand grenade that was found at a private hospital in Narahenpita on Tuesday (14).
The Police said the suspect was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) while in possession of 18 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect had been arrested in the Mahawa area in Kurunegala following investigations conducted into the incident by the CCD.
The Police retrieved a hand grenade from a toilet on the first floor of the private hospital in Narahenpita on Tuesday.
A special inquiry was launched into the incident, following which a 26-year-old from Uppuveli, Trincomalee was arrested on the same day.
Investigations had revealed that the suspect had planted the bomb at the hospital and he himself had tipped off the Police.
During further investigations, the man had revealed that he had acted in this manner expecting a reward from the hospital administration.
However, according to sources, the Police are not convinced and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
It has also been reported that the suspect had revealed that he had found the hand grenade from the house of a former Government Minister which was under renovation a few months ago. (NewsWire)
