Special statement from Police for school teachers conducting online classes

School teachers have been urged to file a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) if they are threatened by a third party to halt online academic classes for school children.

Issuing a statement, the Police Department urged teachers who are being threatened in this manner to initiate action.

The Police said teachers facing such a situation can inform the Police via the emergency hotline 119.

They added that the Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera has instructed the Police to take stringent action with regard to such incidents.

Schools have resorted to online academic lectures due to the prevalent coronavirus pandemic.

However, several teachers’ unions had resorted to a strike by withdrawing from online lectures due to issues over salary anomalies. (NewsWire)
