The islandwide quarantine curfew currently imposed in Sri Lanka has been further extended till 04 am on the 21st of September.
Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said with the infection rate steadily declining, the Government is confident that Sri Lanka will once again be able to reopen without risk.
A 10-day islandwide lockdown was imposed from the 20th – the 31st of August due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.
However, the Government decided to extend the lockdown by another week until the 6th of September on the recommendations of health experts.
The Government later decided to further extend the lockdown by an additional week until the 13th of September.
With the latest extension by another week, Sri Lanka is heading into its fourth week of the islandwide lockdown.
Health experts had earlier called on the Government to impose a lockdown at least for a minimum of 04- weeks to curtail the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the coronavirus. (NewsWire)
