A tense situation was reported at a vaccination center at Dodanduwa in Galle after health officials left the premises without giving Covid-19 vaccines.
Several people protested as their vaccination card had been marked as given the vaccine when they had not been vaccinated.
Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella issued the following clarification of the incident after it was highlighted in social media.
Clarification from Health Minister
Following an immediate inquiry into the incident at the Hikkaduwa vaccination center, there was a clash between 2 groups of people who insisted on priority to be vaccinated when the situation escalated. Some waiting in line, awaiting their jabs had already had their cards filled.
To avoid a bigger clash, health officials halted the vaccination drive for the day & packed up the equipment to leave with those waiting in line not having received their jabs despite their cards already confirming it. Hence the discrepancy.
I reiterate that every citizen including those in this village will have unhindered access to the vaccine. I urge those who attend the vaccine drive to be patient & allow the officials to efficiently administer the rollout as it is in the best interest of the country. (NewsWire)
@munza14 @roelraymond @AzzamAmeen @TheMorningLK @indica @ravirannaneliya @ruvanw @DilrukshiH can someone shed some light on this incident? See towards the end – it is claimed that Cards were filled but no vax given! If this is true it is criminal. pic.twitter.com/ug3nA9lg28
