The islandwide lockdown currently imposed in Sri Lanka will be further extended till 04 am on the 06th of September.
President’s spokesman Kingsly Rathnayake said the decision was taken during the Covid Committee meeting held under the aegis of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat today.
The Government imposed a 10-day lockdown until Monday, the 30th of August.
However, Sri Lanka has been reporting over 4000 Covid cases and nearly 200 deaths per day over the last few weeks.
Several members of the Government and Opposition, and health experts have repeatedly urged the Government to extend the current islandwide lockdown to curtail the rapid spread of the coronavirus.
