The Delta variant of the coronavirus has now spread to other provinces other than the Western Province, the World Health Organization (WHO) expert group on Sri Lanka said.
The latest report issued by the expert group revealed that it was ascertained after close to 90% of the samples were sequenced.
The Delta variant is highly transmissible with a shorter incubation period.
Hospitals are at full capacity with an increasing number of health workers getting infected, while critical supplies are low in stock, including oxygen, it revealed.
The WHO expert group further pointed out that the virus has now started spreading within homes.
