A decision has been taken to conduct a proper investigation into an incident where the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was administered to children between the age of 12-18 at the vaccination centre established at the Kokkavila Government School in Chilaw, Puttalam District Health Services Director Specialist Consultant Dr. Dinusha Fernando said.
A large number of people above the age of 60 from the area were unable to obtain the Pfizer vaccine at the vaccination centre yesterday, due to security and health officials at the location providing the vaccine to close associates and their children.
Ruling party and opposition politicians from the area have called on the Government to conduct a proper investigation into the incident.
It has also been reported that the children of a doctor had also been administered the Pfizer vaccine at the vaccination centre at the Kokkavila Government School in Chilaw yesterday.
Dr. Arulthevy Arunachalm attached to the Chilaw Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Department said a formal inquiry has been launched into the incident.
A female officer of the Family Health Services Unit and a group of other officers have been identified to have been involved in the incident. (NewsWire)
