Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son and Chief of Staff, Yoshitha Rajapaksa has refuted rumours linking him to Sri Lankan artist Iraj Weeraratne’s decision to resign from the National Youth Services Council.
Rumours had been circulated on social media recently, claiming that Yoshitha had assaulted Iraj Weeraratne, and this had prompted the Sri Lankan artist to resign from the Council.
According to the Daily Mirror, commenting on the matter, Yoshitha said rumours that are circulating on social media in this regard were false.
Stating that the rumours were baseless, Yoshitha Rajapaksa said he had no association with Iraj Weeraratne, adding that he had only met him at a function sometime back.
Sri Lankan singer/ songwriter Iraj Weeraratne yesterday announced his resignation from the National Youth Services Council.
Weeraratne was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Council with effect from 18th August 2020 for a period of 3 years.
In a letter addressed to Minister of Youth Affairs Namal Rajapaksa, the artist said he has decided to resign from his post due to unavoidable prior work commitments. (NewsWire)
