A top Inter-Religious Committee has slammed a group of Policemen over their recent statement to the media in Kandy on the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Issuing a statement through the Archbishop of Colombo’s Social Communication Centre, the Inter-Religious Committee said the group of high-ranking Police officers had claimed that they were being targetted for failure to prevent the Easter Sunday Attacks as they are Sinhalese Buddhists.
Issuing a statement, the Committee said the officers had been named by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the attacks, while the Commission had also issued recommendations against them.
The Inter-Religious Committee further said the officers had made the claims to the media with a view to convert the investigations into the attacks into a racist and religious matter.
The Committe added that it condemns the statements made by the Police officers, and called on the authorities to conduct the ongoing investigations into the Easter attacks free of political agendas and in a just manner. (NewsWire)
