Seven updates on current Covid situation : 180 more deaths

  • 183 COVID-19 deaths confirmed for Saturday (21) increasing Total fatalities in Sri Lanka to 7,366.
  • The number of Covid-19 positive patients surpass the 4,000 mark (4,282) for the 1st time in Sri Lanka.
  • 18,769 COVID-19 recoveries discharged from hospitals today, bringing the total recoveries to 342,159
  • State Minister Channa Jayasumana says the Government has declared the week from tomorrow (23) as a special ‘vaccination week’ for the unvaccinated people above 60 years of age.
  • The Indian Naval Vessel Shakti arrived at the Colombo Port carrying 100 tonnes of Oxygen from India today. Oxygen tanks have been already dispatched to relevant areas.
  • The government has planned to commence the vaccination of people between the ages of 18 and 30 years in the second week of September.
  • Sri Lanka Police has arrested 452 more people within the last 24 hours for failing to follow health protocols including wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.
