Colombo Mayoress Rosy Senanayake has called for the closure of businesses in the Colombo city as a precautionary measure to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
Issuing a statement, Senananayake said “I request all business establishments in Colombo City to be closed for a few days to contain the pandemic. The support given to me by closing business establishments in view to support contain the pandemic spread in the city.”
She further said that more than 90% of the Covid cases were being detected from Colombo City, adding that it accounts for the Delta variant of the virus.
Welcoming the move by the trade associations to close all shops in the city yesterday, Rosy Senanayake said “their decision was commendable to contribute towards containing the pandemic without thinking of their profits. This is a welcome move.” (NewsWire)
