Parliamentarian Gajen Ponnambalam has tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the 6th member of Parliament to contract the virus this month (August).
The Leader of the Tamil National People’s Front said he, along with his wife and daughter, had undergone a PCR test after showing symptoms of the virus.
“Since my wife, daughter and I were showing symptoms of Covid-19 we had ourselves tested. This morning we got the results with positive findings. We would therefore appreciate all those who have been in contact with us recently to have themselves tested and self isolate,” he tweeted.
Earlier, Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Hambantota District Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dilip Wedarachchi had contracted the virus.
Thereafter, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s Matale District MP Rohana Dissanayake and Badulla District MP Janaka ThissaKutti Aracchi had tested positive.
State Minister of Clay, Cane, Brass, Furniture, and Rural Industry Promotion Prasanna Ranaweera thereafter tested positive for COVID-19 last week (13). (NewsWire)
