WATCH: PM allows Marikkar to speak for 2nd time despite Wimal’s objection

The no-confidence motion against Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila was taken up for debate in Parliament today.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today ordered ruling party MP, Minister Wimal Weerawansa to allow the Opposition party to continue with its statements on the debate.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian S.M Marikkar initially moved the no-confidence motion against Minister Gammanpila but had failed to read the motion and instead made a speech against the Minister and the Government.

However, when he attempted to speak for the second time to read the motion, Minister Weerawansa objected to the move.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa thereafter intervened, and ordered the MP to allow the Opposition MP to make his statement.

“The Government is prepared to face the no-confidence motion,” he said, requesting the Speaker to allow MP Marikkar to proceed. (NewsWire)
