Another patient with Delta variant identified – PHI

A resident of Jayaliyagama in Kahathuduwa has been detected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus, the Ada Derana reported.

The Public Health Inspector (PHI) in charge of Kahathuduwa Dhanuka Pathmaraja said the individual is a 47-year-old man, employed as a contractor at a leading construction firm in Slave Island, Colombo.

The infected individual has been transferred to a Covid Treatment Facility in Polonnaruwa. It is suspected that the infected individual may have contracted the virus from his workplace, he said.

The PHI officer further said 50 families, including the mother, wife and son of the infected person have been placed in quarantine, while restriction of movement has been imposed in and around Jayaliyagama.

Investigations have revealed that area residents have not associated much with the infected person, he added.

Dhanuka Pathmaraja said 100 PCR tests have been conducted in Jayaliyagama, and measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus outside of the infected area. (NewsWire)
