WATCH : Trees relocated instead of being cut down under BIA expansion project

The plan on the second phase of the Katunayake Airport Expansion Project has been restructured to enable the use of new technology to protect nearly 419 trees that were to be cut down due to the development project.

The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd said 219 of the trees will be protected in their original place, while 200 of the trees will be relocated using the ‘root balled’ technology.

The project will also focus on preserving power and the efficient use of water, with an aim to protect the environment. (NewsWire)
