The bodies of 605 people who had died due to the coronavirus in Sri Lanka have been buried thus far, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Guanwardena said.
He said permission was granted to bury the bodies based on their religious beliefs, after taking into consideration constant requests put forth in this regard.
Dr. Gunawardeena revealed that the bodies were buried in the designated burial ground in Ottamawadi, Batticaloa.
He said 572 Muslim Covid victims, 14 Hindu victims, 12 Christian Covid victims, and 07 Buddhist victims were buried yesterday (15).
Despite Hinduism and Buddhism following cremation, certain bodies of Covid victims from the two religions that had been declared as an accident, murder or open- ended cases have been buried. (NewsWire)
