The Excise Department has denied media reports which claimed that liquor can be purchased online from supermarkets starting from today.
Several media institutions including a national newspaper reported that liquor can be ordered online from supermarkets, similar to ordering other items such as essential goods.
However, Excise Department Spokesman Kapila Kumarasingha told NewsWire that the department had not authorized such an initiative.
He said that action will be taken against individuals or entities that engage in online liquor sales. (NewsWire)
