The health authorities have reportedly requested the government to extend the travel restrictions by another week, to further control the spread of Covid 19.
According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, health officials have warned the government that unless the travel restrictions are extended, the expected outcome from the current restrictions in place will not be achieved.
It also reports that the current trend of 3000+ daily cases being reported is an alarming situation and to contain, proper restrictions should be put in place.
The Sri Lanka Medial Association too has sent a letter to the President on last Wednesday (2) reiterating above facts.
The Government imposed travel restrictions on the 21st of May and it was lifted on the 25th and reimposed on the same day. Travel restrictions have been continuing since then and initially extended till 7th June.
However, last week the Government further extended the islandwide restriction by another week till the 14th of June. Health authorities have now reportedly requested to extend it by another week till 21st June. (NewsWire)
