Over 10 turtles, one dolphin, seabirds, and several fish have been found dead today (06), following the aftermath of the X-Press Pearl disaster, The Daily Mirror reported.
Carcasses have been washed ashore in the Induruwa, Kosgoda, Payagala, Wadduwa and Dehiwala areas.
Under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance, all sea turtles and their products such as shells and eggs are fully protected. Therefore, these carcases were sent to the Government Analyst to conduct further investigations after a court order.
Many such dead sea animals have been washed ashore, from the day the X-press Pearl caught fire.
However, the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) has stated that the exact reason for the deaths of the animals have not been ascertained as yet. (NewsWire)
