5 remanded and family ordered to be quarantined over Jaffna party

Five people have been remanded for holding a party in Jaffna in violation of the quarantine law.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the suspects had held a party with alcohol in the Arasadi area in Jaffna early last morning.

They were arrested by the Jaffna Police and were remanded till the 7th of June after being produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court.

The Court had further ordered the family members of the suspects to be placed under quarantine.

Meanwhile, event organizer Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali were also arrested for holding a birthday party at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo in violation of the quarantine law .

However, they were released on a personal bail worth Rs. 1 million each within hours of their arrest.

The guests and family members of those who had attended the party were also not placed under quarantine, unlike the incident in Jaffna. (NewsWire)
