Chandimal & Hansamali granted bail, Police identify 12 more guests at party

 

Event organizer Chandimal Jayasinghe and model Piumi Hansamali who were arrested for hosting a party in violation of the quarantine law have been released on a personal bail of Rs. 1 million each.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the two suspects who had organized a birthday party at a 5-star hotel in Colombo last night, were released after being produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today.

The suspects were arrested by the Fort Police for organizing the party at a time when all public events and parties have been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

An islandwide travel restriction has also been enforced in the country to curtail the spread of the third wave of the coronavirus.

DIG Ajith Rohana said 12 people who had attended the party have been identified following investigations launched by the Fort Police.

He said between 22-25 people had attended the party and CCTV footage of the event is being analysed to identify the rest of the attendees.

The Police Spokesman said Chandimal Jayasinghe and Piumi Hansamali have been charged under the quarantine law. (NewsWire)
