An 85-year-old monk has died after being assaulted by a group of youths, Lankadeepa newspaper reports.
The Police said the monk had advised one youth not to fish in the lake that was located behind the temple at which he was serving, claiming it was a sin.
The youth who had been angered by the advise had thereafter brought along another five individuals and had assaulted the monk with wooden poles.
The monk who was seriously injured in the incident which occurred on the 29th of April, had received treatment at the Matara Hospital, where he had died after 16-days.
The Weligama Police have arrested the five youths on suspicion in connection to the assault and murder. (NewsWire)
