A majority of the people infected with COVID-19 in Colombo are not residents, Officials from the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) said.
Speaking during a show on Ada Derana, Colombo’s Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Dinuka Guruge said a majority of the infected people from Colombo have been identified as those employed in the city.
CMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni said that nearly 4% of Covid infections have been reported from Colombo.
He said the virus had not spread rapidly as during the second wave, due to a majority of the population in Colombo being vaccinated.
Dr. Dinuka Guruge further revealed that a large number of the infected in Colombo are people who are employed in the city.
As only residents of Colombo were vaccinated, small Covid clusters were found in various institutions within the city, she said.
Meanwhile, Colombo Mayoress Rosy Senanayake said as stringent measures were taken by health officials earlier on, the spread of the virus was able to be contained in Colombo at present. (NewsWire)
