DNA test conducted on charred remains found in Rattota

The identity of the charred human remains that was found in a forest area in Rattota last week will be ascertained after receiving the DNA test results, the Police said.

Upon receiving a tip off, the Rattota Police had found the charred remains, a skull and some body parts, at Dombagoda in the Rattota police area on the 21st of April.

The Police said it is suspected that the remains may be that of a 46-year-old from Wellawaya who had gone missing a week ago.

Following the recovery of the charred remains, the Anuradhapura Police had found an abandoned car on the 23rd of April.

Investigations had revealed that a 46-year-old person by the name of Rajapaksha Mudiyanselage Thilak Chandana Rajapaksha of Weherayaya in Wellawaya has been missing for a period of one week.

The missing individual is reported to have operated a construction company in Colombo and was scheduled to open a new office at Thalahena in Thalangama.

However, Police teams that had visited the new building in Thalahena had found blood stains on the floor and on the walls of the building, the Police said.

The Parents of the missing man were later summoned to the Matale hospital where samples were collected for a DNA test to be conducted to ascertain the identity of the charred remains recovered in Rattota. (NewsWire)
