Woman makes emotional appeal for help to identify couple who stole sister’s mobile phone in Wattala (CCTV)

The Police have commenced investigations into an incident where a couple on a motorcycle had stolen a mobile phone from a female pedestrian near Alwis Town Mawatha in Wattala.

The 21-year-old victim, who was on her way home after work, had been stopped by the couple, who had asked her mobile phone to make a phone call.

The victim had handed over the phone after which the couple had sped off with the mobile phone.

Family members of the victim have called on the public to help identify the suspects involved in the theft.

Message from the Family:

My little sister Rachelle, works at a fast food joint in Wattala, and when she got off work around 08.45 pm on the 15th of March, 2021, and heading towards the bus stand to grab the bus home, she was approached by a couple on a motor bike claiming that their battery had died on them and asked if they could make a phone call, as they were lost and trying to find directions to whatever place they were supposed to head to! So, my little sister, being the kind soul, she is handed them the phone to make the call, and after stalling and waiting for the traffic to die down these absolute disgusting hooligans took off with her phone, my sister tried to run behind them and then tried to stop a taxi, but no one stopped to help her, mind you this taxi was empty too! This is a young girl, just 21 years of age and no one bothered to even ask if she needed help! She ran back to the outlet and made a call to my other sister and asked her to inform me to log into her iCloud and track the phone, but by that time these thieves had already switched off her phone.

My sister, always had her debit card inside her phone case and these thieves had obviously seen the card and we have a footage that shows at around 09.15 PM they had entered a private mobile phone outlet at K-Zone, Ja-Ela, and had tried to purchase 03 phones for 78,000, 69,000, and 4000 but luckily it was declined.

While at the bus stand they dialed a number, and when my little sister came home and checked her iCloud, we did get the number they had dialed. It was a dialog number.

The same night we made a complaint to the Wattala, Police Station and they said they’ll get into the matter.

We checked all the CCTV cameras in the areas they were loitering and we couldn’t see the number plate, all the videos are grainy so please I’m begging you, I’m sharing the images of the guy and also the videos of these heartless monsters, please if you have any idea of who they are or have any memory as to where you might have seen them it would be a massive help.

My sister is just 21 years old, that was her first iPhone, that she bought with her hard -earned money, she works a 12- hour shift, standing and serving customers at the fast food joint. Her University online classes are on Sundays and that phone was her access to these classes.

If you watch the video closely you could see her in the middle of the road trying to stop a taxi and then having her hand over her mouth! What she must have thought at that time, as an elder sister knowing your baby sister was targeted like that my heart aches, knowing there was nothing that I could have done to put her little heart out of pain and shock!!!

More than losing her phone, she is extremely heartbroken because it was a girl, who was a part of this, she says if it were two guys on the bike she would have never helped but since a girl asked her for help she didn’t refuse her.
Please this needs to stop, wherever we turn there are stories and stories of thieves ransacking things that aren’t theirs! How can a girl or woman walk on the road with these things happening? Where’s the safety??? Where are girls like my little sister supposed to turn to????

This could be you, your mother, your sister, your wife or your girlfriend so please, please, please, share this post so that we could get some sort of information on who these two people are! (NewsWire)
