“We assumed” SL Govt. clarifies after India denies being part of WCT deal (Video)

The Government today clarified its stance on developing the West Container Terminal of the Colombo Port under a joint venture with Indian firm, Adani Group.

Cabinet co-spokesman Minister Udaya Gammanpila told reporters today, that the Indian Government had nominated the Adani Group for the development of the East Container Terminal of the Colombo Port.

However, the Government had decided to develop it under the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
Minister Gammanpila said the Government had assumed that the Adani Group remained as the Indian Government’s nomination for the West Container Terminal, and had hence continued discussions with the firm on the matter.

He further said the Indian Government has informed the Sri Lankan Government that it will not be officially involved in discussions on the Colombo Port development joint venture.
Minister Gammanpila made the statement in response to a question raised by a journalist, on India’s decision to officially disassociate itself with Sri Lanka’s announcement suggesting that India was involved in approving an investment into the West Container Terminal of the Colombo port.
