A 06-year-old child has died after being knocked down by a container in Badulla today.
The accident had occurred while the child, accompanied by his grandmother, was on his way to school for the first time after receiving admission for Grade one in a school in the area.
The container is said to have struck the child and his grandmother, while they were walking along the road leading to the school, through a fuel station in Badulla.
The driver of the container has been accused of reckless and negligent driving, which has been identified as the main cause for the accident.
The grandmother of the deceased child has been hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries, while the brother of the child who was also with the two at the time of the incident, is reported to be unharmed.

The deceased child has been identified as Sivanesan Varun Pradeesh from Aselapura in Badulla.
