The 3rd SPORTSINFO Cricket Inspiration Gamini Dissanayake Lecture, organised by SPORTSINFO, Sri Lanka’s No. 01 sports promotion network and was delivered virtually by former Test captain and ICC T20 world champion Rangana Herath on Boxing day, 26th December, 2020 in Colombo.
Unlike the previous years, this time it was held entirely online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This lecture is a tribute to late Minister Gamini Dissanayake on his remarkable effort to win Test status for Sri Lanka in 1982 and the establishment of Asian Cricket Council.
CEO of SPORTSINFO, Nilakshi Rathnathunga delivered the welcome speech, while the founder of Cricket Inspiration Lecture, Chairman of SPORTSINFO, Thilan Rangana delivered the introductory speech inviting & presenting the great Rangana Herath for the memorial speech and panel discussion with veteran sports journalist Amantha Wijesuriya.
Avishka Perera, the Nalanda College first XI captain (2019/2020), received the Gamini Dissanayake ‘Spirit of Cricket’ award from Rangana Herath while the 2014 T20 world champion was formally inducted into the ‘SPORTSINFO Legacy of Legend’ by SPORTSINFO Chairman Thilan Rangana and CEO, Nilakshi Rathnathunga for his achievements as one of the legends of cricket and for the service he has rendered for Sri Lanka during the last two decades.
Nalanda skipper Avishka Perera joined the elite group after reaching the 1000 runs milestone consecutively in 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons, becoming the 1st Nalandian batsman.
The young cricket captains and coaches of U-19 Division I, II and III and participated in this virtual cricket lecture along with other invited cricketers and cricket loving community in Sri Lanka.
Institute of Sports Management (IOSM) and SILK Sports for Children Foundation were the powered by partners while The Chance Sports & Textrip were official resource partners of this cricket lecture for the third consecutive year.
This annual cricket lecture is organized by SPORTSINFO with the objective of boosting the morale and developing the competitive mindset of emerging schools, helping them to produce successful players in the future.
