A Covid infected patient detected within the Warakapola District Secretariat division has been identified as an individual who had consumed the indigenous medicine produced by indigenous medical practitioner Dhammika Bandara from Kegalle.
According to the Divaina newspaper, the patient from Udukumbura Othnapitiya is among 12 Covid infected persons reported the Warakapola District Secretariat division.
Among the group, three are employees of an apparel factory in Thulhiriya, two each from Thalliyadde and Weragala, one each from Niwatuwa and Dummaladeniya, and three from the Othnapitiya area.
The Covid infected persons have been transferred to treatment facilities, while their family members have been placed in self-isolation at their residences.
Indigenous medical practitioner Dhammika Bandara from Kegalle has been distributing his indigenous medicine to the public claiming it has the capability to cure the coronavirus.
Large crowds in thousands gathered around his residence, including on Christmas day to obtain his medicine.
The concoction was previously tasted by many Government officials including Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and a group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarians.
Despite the medicine not having been approved by the Government as a local remedy to treat COVID-19, Dhammika Bandara has been distributing it to the public as it has been approved by the Pharmacology Unit of the Ayurveda Department as an indigenous food. (NewsWire)
