A group including Ministers CB Ratnayake and Jeevan Thondaman have been placed in quarantine after being identified as close contacts of a Covid patient.
According to Ada Derana, the Nuwara Eliya District Health Services Regional Director Dr. Imesh Prathapasinghe said MP Thondaman was yesterday (23) directed to quarantine at his residence at the Ceylon Wokers Congress Headquarters premises in Kotagala.
State Minister Thondaman has been identified as the close associate of Agarapathana Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Kadhir selvan, who has been placed at the quarantine centre in Hambantota.
Dr. Prathapasinghe said measures are underway to obtain MP Thondaman’s PCR test result.
The State Minister is reported to have travelled with Kadhir Selvam from 17-18 December.
Meanwhile media reports have said Minister C. B. Rathnayake, and MPs Nimal Piyatissa and Madurapandi Rameshwaran have been home quarantined after attending a meeting in Thalawakele recently.
MP S. B. Dissanayake told reporters that he is currently self isolating as he had attended a meeting with Minister C. B. Rathnayake.
Moreover, the Mayor of Lindula in Thalawakele, the Chairmen and deputy Chairmen of the Nuwara Eliya, Kotagala, Ambagamuwa, Norwood, and Maskeliya Pradeshiya Sabhas, 10 employees, and area news reporters have also been placed in self-isolation.
The group has been quarantined after attending a meeting in which State Minister Jeevan Thondaman had participated in Colombo.(NewsWire)
