Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to immediately launch a probe into the death of a Dutch monk in Rathgama.
The monk from Netherlands was serving at a hermitage in the Polgasduwa area in Rathgama at the time of his demise.
He was reported missing on Tuesday and the Police had recovered his body from the Rathgama Lagoon later in the day.
Prime Minister Rajapaksa has ordered Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandana Wickramaratne to dispatch a CID team to the area to apprehend the suspects involved in the incident.
Responding to the Prime Minister, IGP Wickramaratne said a number of teams have been dispatched to investigate the monk’s death, adding that briefings on the on-going investigations will be provided to the Prime Minister on a regular basis.
The IGP further said that the CID team is currently in the area and has commenced investigations. (NewsWire)
