Muscat Maritime Security Centre received a report that a Sri Lankan-flagged wooden ship (boom) had run ashore and sunk off Al Athaiba in Muscat Governorate after experiencing a technical failure. The ship was loaded with miscellaneous goods and oil derivatives and carried 6 crews on board, Oman Observer Reported.
“After receiving the report, the Maritime Security Centre (MSC) held a meeting which was attended by representatives of the military, security and civil bodies at the centre, to handle the situation in accordance with the system of joint national action.
The meeting discussed ways of executing plans required to ensure the safety of fishermen and sea-goers and the nearby maritime area and also to avoid pollution or leak of the petroleum derivatives. The crew members were evacuated and placed under medical observation and they are in good condition. (Oman Observer)
