MP Rishad Bathiudeen should be allowed to Attend Sittings – Parliament

Serjeant-at-Arms of Parliament Mr. Narendra Fernando has informed the Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine to take steps in order to allow Vanni District Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen to participate in the sittings of Parliament tomorrow (22nd) and the day after tomorrow(23rd) at 10am.

Copies of this letter have been forwarded to the Commissioner General of Prisons and the Director General of Health Services. The Serjeant-at-Arms has taken this step following an order issued by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the Committee on Parliamentary Business held this afternoon (21).

The letter states that according to the provisions of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act, it was decided at the Committee on Parliamentary Business that MP Rishad Bathiudeen should be allowed to attend the sittings of Parliament tomorrow and day after tomorrow.

The decision was taken by Speaker, following a request made by Party Leaders at the Committee on Parliamentary Business that arrangements should be made for Rishad Bathiudeen to attend the Sittings of Parliament.
