Nearly 100 PCR tests to be conducted in Matara today

The Public Health Inspector (PHI) in charge of Matara says following a Russian crew member staying at a hotel in Polhena being detected with COVID-19, PCR tests are to be conducted on nearly 100 persons, including hotel staff, their family members, and three-wheeler drivers today.

The PHI officer said that the Russian was part of a 15- member Russian crew that had landed at the Mattala International Airport on 13th September.

The crew which was to leave for China today had conducted PCR tests yesterday following which one crew member was detected with COVID-19.

The PHI officer further said that 04 Russians who were residing with the infected crew member had reportedly travelled by three-wheelers and had visited two super markets in the area on Sunday.

As a result, staff members at the hotel, staff who had returned home, and their family members have been placed in quarantine, the PHI Officer added. (NewsWire)
