The assistant principal of a prominent school in Colombo has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy under the guise of conducting tuition classes.
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said the Panadura- South Police had arrested the suspect on Wednesday (09) after receiving a complaint from an area resident and investigations conducted by the Police.
The child who lives close to the residence of the assistant principal had been placed for special classes under the latter due to weak performance in the Sinhala subject.
The teenager had attended tuition classes alone on every Saturday at the assistance principal’s residence during which the man had sexually abused him on several occasions in July.
Statements recorded from the child had revealed that the suspect had requested the child to report for classes every day.
The Police said the child had refused to attend classes in August, following which his parents were prompted to inquire and had been made aware of the sexual abuse.
The mother of the teenager along with her brother had arrived at the assistant principal’s residence and had assaulted the man with a wooden pole.
The teenager’s mother had informed Police that the wife of the suspect had thereafter, escorted them inside the house and handed over Rs. 100, 000 requesting the matter to be kept under wraps.
The suspect will be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s court. (NewsWire)
