1915 built Gaffoor building to be transformed into luxury hotel

The project to convert the ancient Gaffoor Building in Colombo- Fort into a luxury hotel commenced yesterday.

The program was launched under the patronage of State Minister of Urban development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal and Public Sanitization Nalaka Godahewa.

The State Minister told reporters that the building will be converted into a luxury hotel to provide accommodation for tourists arriving at the Colombo Port on cruise ships.

“The Gaffoor building is an ancient and historical building in Sri Lanka. It was constructed by gem businessman Abdul Gaffoor in 1915. He constructed the building as part of his business establishment to sell gem stones to people who arrived via ships at the Colombo Port. Therefore, this building is of great historical value to Sri Lanka’, he explained. (NewsWire)
