Sri Lanka not included in UK travel list on self- quarantine. Full list of 59 countries

Sri Lanka has been omitted from the list issued by the United Kingdom on tourists allowed to visit the UK without facing a mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon arrival.

The list issued yesterday (03) covers over 50 countries and territories allowed to visit the UK from 10 July without facing a mandatory 14-day quarantine period upon arrival.

The countries and territories are predominantly places where UK holidaymakers can visit without self-isolating for 14 days on their return to England.

Sri Lanka has not been included in the list despite announcing that the coronavirus has been contained and no new patients have been reported from among communities.

However, British tourists visiting Sri Lanka will require to undergo mandatory self quarantine for a period of 14- days upon their return to the UK.

The British Government announced that from 10 July 2020, unless passengers have visited or stopped in any other country or territory in the preceding 14 days, those arriving from the countries and territories listed as “low risk” will not be required to self-isolate on arrival into England.

Speaking at the Downing Street press briefing, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “Instead of quarantining arrivals from the whole world, we will only quarantine arrivals from those countries where the virus is sadly not under control.”

As per the Coronavirus regulations self-isolate for 14 days will be imposed if the passenger returns to the UK from a country outside the common travel area.

The UK Government said the government is satisfied that it is now safe to ease these measures in England and has introduced travel corridor exemption for some countries and territories.

The countries listed as low risk include Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Hong Kong, South Korea, Switzerland and Vietnam.

The US and China are among the countries not included in the list.

Sri Lanka was also omitted from a similar list issued by the European Union recently. (Newswire)
