Former President Maithripala Sirisena’s media unit has responded to criticism hurled by clergy and certain individuals who claim that the former President did not release the monies for the betterment of victimized families of the Easter Bombings, that were granted by an organization called Muslim World League on 30th June last year.
The statement further states that Mr. Maithripala Sirisena graced the occasion only as the Chief Guest in his capacity as the President back then.
Muslim World League has forwarded a written statement about the matter in dispute upon the enquiry by former Governor of Western Province AJM Muzammil. Accordingly, the General Secretary of MWL has informed that the Sri Lankan Government hasn’t provided the following information that was vital to release the monies that were granted.
1. Number of deaths occurred due to the attacks
2. Religion of those who died
3. List of names of those who died and those who were wounded
4. Properties that were damaged due to the attacks
5. Number of widowed and the number of orphaned children
6. Other relevant information
7. Charitable account details of the President or Prime Minister
However, MWL has also informed that they haven’t granted the promised charitable amount to any other party as of yet and that they’re hoping to expedite the procedure after getting in touch with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Religious Affairs.
