“I am the No 1 SL Cricket administrator”, Thilanga declares, also replies to Mahela

Former President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Thilanga Sumathipala says he considers himself as the number one administrator in the cricketing field in Sri Lanka.

The former Parliamentarian made the observation during an interview with Hari TV, on the current match-fixing inquiry and Cricket in Sri Lanka.

Thilanga Sumathipala speaking during the interview said that as a cricket administrator he was able to clear several Sri Lankan cricketers who were falsly accused previously on various issues.

“When players like Murali, Sanath, Marvan, Angelo and Kusal Janith were falsely accused, we told them not to panic, not to respond to those allegations and got them cleared” he said.

Earlier, commenting on the controversy surrounding the 2011 Cricket World Cup final, Thilanga Sumathipala had publicly advised former players not to worry about the allegation if they are not involved in it.

He said it was questionable as to why cricketers are worried over former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s allegation on match fixing in 2011 World Cup Final, if they are not involved in it.

“I am sorry next time we will check with him before reacting and wearing the hats since he has vast experience on the subject matter.” Mahela Jayawardana, Tweeted in response.

Commenting on Mahela’s response, Sumathipla said some star cricketers, who had recently retired after playing for the country, have forgotten their humble beginnings, like their initial sponsors, bats, schools and sports administrations.
