Karuna informs CID that he is unwell and unable to appear until he recovers

Former LTTE Commander Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman had failed to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today to testify on a recent statement of his.

Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senaratne told Newswire that Karuna, through his lawyers, had informed the CID that he is unwell and will not be able to appear before the Department until he recovers.

“The lawyers had submitted a letter in this regard, which also requested for an alternative day for Karuna to appear before the CID. The CID is yet to allocate a new date to record a statement from Karuna Amman,” SSP Senaratne said.

Addressing a public gathering in the East last Friday (19), Karuna Amman had stated that he was more dangerous than the Coronavirus as he had killed between 2000- 3000 troops in Elephant Pass during the war.

Following his revelation, a number of individuals, including politicians had called for Karuna’s arrest and an investigation to be launched into the matter.

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickremeratne had thereafter ordered the CID to immediately launch an investigation.

As part of the investigation Karuna Amman was summoned before the CID today.
