Sri Lanka unable to find owners of 45,000 online imported goods after addresses defaced due to ‘Sea Water’

Recipient addresses on at least 45,000 goods that had been shipped recently had been defaced when it reached Sri Lanka, according to Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardane.

“There’re accusations that the goods which were imported from abroad have been stolen or lost. This is an unjust accusation. Last few months, the whole world came to a standstill. Airports were closed. Ships weren’t sailing. Therefore many such goods which were supposed to be transported by air, have been sent via sea, in a container. There’re about 42,000 parcels that belong to various people. The addresses of the receivers can’t be found because such goods had been drenched in sea water. How are we going to distribute these goods, if we don’t have the addresses?” Minister Bandula Gunawardane said.

Postal Department says they will contact the necessary foreign authorities to find the addresses of the goods shipped.
