Former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Kumar Sangakkara speaking to NewsWire clarified said that he has not requested the N’Eliya golf club to be given to him for 20 years for a project.
“The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club for which I have extremely high regard belongs to its members and the leasing of which has never arisen even as a thought in my mind let alone in conversation.”
Kumar Sangakkara said that a few years ago he submitted a project proposal for a sports tourism related hospitality project in response to a newspaper article calling for such a proposal on a small plot of land close to the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course.
It is this project the former MP SB Dissanayake may have alluded to, he added.
“I was asked some weeks ago by telephone if I had submitted such a proposal some years ago to which I answered yes. I also stated that I was awaiting the final decision by the relevant authority.”
“The project proposal will be available at the relevant government authority for anyone to understand what it includes” Sangakkara said.
Addressing a press conference yesterday former MP SB Dissanayake claimed that former Cricket Captain Kumar Sangakkara met him with a project proposal to attract one million golfers to Sri Lanka each year if he is given the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club for a period of 20 years.
