Another 877 suspects have been apprehended in the special islandwide operation ‘Yukthiya’ carried out by the Police Special Task Force (STF).
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the suspects were arrested during multiple raids conducted yesterday until 12.30 am today.
The Police recovered 475g of heroin, 501g of ICE, 7.9 kilos of cannabis, 3,605 cannabis plants, and 126 narcotic pills during the operations.
Among the arrested group, detention orders have been obtained against 4 suspects, while 14 found to be addicted to drugs have been transferred to rehabilitation centres.
The ‘Yukthiya’ islandwide special operation was launched in December 2023 to curb drug-related activities in Sri Lanka.
Apart from various types of drugs being seized in the operation, the Police have also seized several illegally acquired properties linked to several drug lords. (NewsWire)
