New international cricket ground project suspended following a meeting called up by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today involving Sri Lanka Cricket officials, former players and former administrators.
“It has been decided to suspend the proposed new International Cricket Stadium project in Homagama” Prime Minister’s Media Unit said.
Prime Minister has also instructed to direct funds to develop school cricket and stadiums, PMs office said.
Former SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala had posted the following Tweet after the meeting.
Very productive meeting with P.M. HE Mahinda Rajapaksa and past Cricketing greats. It was decided to consider our new challengers after Covid19 experience before investing for new infrastructure projects. Must make every effort to take June Indian Tour of Sri Lanka a reality.
