The Government says the request from Dr. PB Jayasundera, the Secretary to President to state employees to donate their May salary, in part or full, to the Government is a “Personal Request” not an official Government request.
Co-Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena addressing a press conference today said that it was clearly mentioned in the letter that it’s a person request and it’s not mandatory to donate.
“As the head of government servants (state employees) he has the right to make such a request” Minister Bandula Gunawardena added.
He said that President’s Secretary has been unfairly attacked on social media over the request he made considering the current situation country face due to CoronaVirus pandemic.
