Sailor begins epic 580km trek from Vavuniya, aiming to break Sri Lanka record

In a remarkable display of determination and endurance, the Sri Lanka Navy’s Leading Engineering Mechanic RPSK Siriwardana today 12th January 2024 began a challenging 580-kilometer walk from Vavuniya, with the ambitious goal of establishing a new national record.

Starting today, he aims to cover a distance of 580 kilometers within the next 8 days, setting a new Sri Lanka record with an impressive daily walking average of 72.5 kilometers.

Thus, he will walk from Vavuniya to Nochchiyagama on the first day, from Nochchiyagama to Palviya on the second day, from Palviya to Madampe on the third day, from Madampe to Naval Headquarters on the fourth day, from Naval Headquarters to Ambepussa on the fifth day, from Ambepussa to Malsiripura on the sixth day, from Malsiripura to Maradankadawala on the seventh day and from Maradankadawala to Vavuniya on the last day.
