A 34-year-old man was reported dead after being shot in the head by two unidentified individuals who had posed as Police Special Task Force (STF) officers.
The Police said the suspects had arrived on a motorcycle at the residence of the victim in the Korathota area in Nawagamuwa last night (Jan 10), claiming to be STF officers.
They had left the house along with the victim on the motorcycle, after which the latter was found seriously injured in the head near the Mahawela Canal in the area.
The Police said upon being taken away by the suspects, the family members of the victim had chased after the motorcyclist on suspicion, due to which they had found the victim seriously injured by the side of the road.
The victim had been admitted to the Athurugiriya Hospital but had succumbed to injuries after being transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
Police investigations have revealed that the victim had died as a result of being shot, but the cause of the shooting is yet to be ascertained.
